Valentine's Day Cards Collection of Helen Southwick

Assembled by Helen Southwick during her childhood in Peabody, this extensive collection of Valentine's Day cards provides a visual history of an important art form from the late Victorian period.

Helen Southwick graduated from Peabody High School as valedictorian of her class in 1917. It was there that she met her future husband, Guy LeCain, who was a star on the varsity baseball team. Following high school Southwick worked in the office of the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company. LeCain worked for the Hunt-Rankin Leather Company until he entered the Army during World War I. Southwick and LeCain were married in 1922.
